I had to do a lyric video for “Beauty Queen (Further Than Skin Deep) because I needed to make sure that people saw the words. As a songwriter, words are so important to me, especially when it comes to topics about self-esteem, confidence, etc. There could never be enough positive reinforcement songs, especially for women, since society tends to have these “standards” that came/come out of nowhere. I specifically chose photos of multicultural women to break away from Western world norms that have been imposed on women of color all over the world.
